2006 Limney
Horsmonden Dry White, Davenport Vineyards
Davenport
Vineyards is relatively new (for a vineyard), but rapidly becoming a leader in
the English wine scene. Their original vineyard was planted in 1991 in Kent,
and they now have 12 acres of vines, all managed organically under UK Soil
Association Certification. The winery in Sussex is one of the best equipped in
England, and since 1995 Davenport Vineyards have developed a reputation based
on the quality and individuality of their English wines.
Tasting
Note This dry white from the heart of Kent has a nice clean
fruity/aromatic nose with hints of strawberries and summer flowers. The initial
impression in the mouth is similar with some nice zesty grapefruit flavours and
Gewurztraminer-like spice. The finish borders on bone dry and is slightly
minerally. A blend of five grape varieties - each picked and fermented
separately to maximise the fruit style without influencing the
flavours.
