2002 Quinta do Crasto
Reserva
Situated on the right bank of the river Douro, half way
between Regua and Pinhao, Quinta do Crasto is one of the new wave of Douro
estates that are making superlative red wines. Using traditional Port grape
varieties such as Tinto Roriz, Tinta Francesca and Touriga National,
supplemented by more obscure local varieties, the results are stunning. Wines
of vibrancy and substance.
Note: Quinta do Crasto wines are not
organic or biodynamic, but they are made with minimal intervention, tradition,
immense style and reflective of the terroir. These are listed because they are
one of my most favourite wines and are also fantastic value for money! - Jane
Christy
Tasting Note A big concentrated wine showing the
intensity of fruit that only low yielding, old vines can produce. It has a
complex aroma of ripe berry fruit and well integrated oak. Perfect
accompaniment to hearty stews and roasted joints. Also excellent with game.
