2003 Quinta do Crasto Douro Tinto
Situated on the right bank of the river Douro, half way between
Regua and Pinhao, Quinta do Crasto is one of the new wave of Douro estates that
are making superlative red wines. Using traditional Port grape varieties such
as Tinto Roriz, Tinta Francesca and Touriga National, supplemented by more
obscure local varieties, the results are stunning. Wines of vibrancy and
substance.
Note: Quinta do Crasto wines are not organic or
biodynamic, but they are made with minimal intervention, tradition, immense
style and reflective of the terroir. These are listed because they are one of
my most favourite wines and are also fantastic value for money! - Jane Christy
Tasting Note Deep, opaque red in colour with aromas of
intense berry fruit with subtle oak complexity. On the palate it is rich, full
and concentrated, showing great depth of fruit with well-integrated American
oak, good tannic structure and a firm, dry finish. Ideal with lamb and roasted
red meat dishes.
