Vegetarian Wine Wine is very rarely marked as suitable for vegetarians or vegans, so without knowing the production methods of each wine, it is impossible to know whether animal product has been used in the clarification process. Clarification (or fining) is the process the winemaker adopts to remove the grape skins and pulp after the wine has been fermented. Many winemakers use products, known as fining agents to quickly rid the wine of this residue. Traditionally, egg whites, gelatine and fish bladders have been used and no guarantee can be made that particles of these fining agents dont find their way into the resulting wine. At Pageant Wines, we choose wines which are clarified with organic egg whites (vegetarian), bentonite clay which does not leave particles in the end product, or wines which have settled naturally. All wines listed at Pageant Wines are suitable for vegetarians and 95% are also suitable for vegans (see Vegan Wines section for a comprehensive list of vegan wines). |
