2005 Bourgogne Rouge, Les Champs de L'Abbaye, Alain Hasard - Burgundy, France
This is quite a heavy-weight Pinot Noir, rich and quite masculine in style which will improve with age (drink from 2009-2012). Lovely subtle, delicate nose of smoke and spices. In the mouth the acidity blends with the intense fruit flavours with a light and silky texture. Concentrated and very good length. It would benefit from decanting for an hour or two before enjoying.

Punchy blackberry fruits abound with secondary notes of juniper berries. The tannins are firm and fleshy, mellowing over time. Great structure, it is a wine made to last and while it is very good with food now, it will improve over time.
